Have made this so many times it’s absolutely delicious wouldn’t change a thing other than I sprinkle nigella seeds on the mash before baking

In reply to Renee. Thanks Renee. Fenugreek gives a unique complexity, I can't think of a good sub, but you can leave it out. It does not taste like maple syrup to me...

This looks and sounds delicious. I’d like to make it but don’t have fenugreek leaves. Is there a good substitute or could it be omitted without ruining the end result? I read that it tastes like maple syrup.
